21 Days of Kindness: Day 21

Day 21:
Sometimes we can get so caught up in our daily routine that we don't make enough time to connect regularly with the people who care most deeply for us. Today, carve out time to call someone who loves you dearly -- whether it's your parents, an aunt or uncle or someone else who has played the role of guardian angel in your life. Share with them some of your experiences from the kindness challenge and perhaps ask them about an act of kindness they received that they've never forgotten.

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 20

Day 20: This time of the year many people are going to be out and about bumping into friends, neighbors, and loved ones. I’m guessing you’ll ask plenty of people how they are doing but with all the hustle and bustle, you may not get much more than a polite “I’m fine, thanks."

We can do better than that.

Your act of kindness for today is to ask someone how they are doing and listen, really listen. You don’t need to say much besides ask a series of simple questions and listen with your ears and your heart.

Despite the festive cheer, the holiday season can be a sad and lonely time for some. Let's help more people feel heard, understood, and a greater sense of connection

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 19

Day 19: From ordinary to extraordinary. You could pay for someone's coffee in line behind you, put money in someone's meter, leave extra change taped to a vending machine, give the waiter anything extra you can afford. It's time to upgrade someone's day from mundane to magical with unexpected kindness! Because there is nothing quite as disarming as unanticipated kindness, and your small act just might restore someone's faith in the goodness of humanity.

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 18

Day 18: The most powerful gifts are those that come straight from the heart. Choose something of yours that you treasure, and give it away to someone else as a gift. Maybe it's a favorite item of clothing, or a framed picture, or a cherished book -- anything that you hold dear and are ready to pay-forward.

21 Day Kindness Challenge Day 17

Day 17:   You choose your random act of kindness today.
Today is a blank slate that awaits your compassion and creativity! Look around you and imagine all the different things you can do to put a smile on someone's face and a song in their hearts. Remember that you are here on this planet in an utterly unique set of circumstances. There is no one else exactly like you in this here and now. What you choose to do with your time and energy makes a special difference that only YOU can make. So go out and share your gifts today in any way that calls out to you.

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 15

Day 15:
Surprise someone with an anonymous gift, also known as "secret Santa".   Simply think of a person you would like to offer a kind gesture to and leave a small gift on their desk, their car, their doorstep when they’re not looking. It doesn’t need to be big or expensive – even just a thoughtful hand-written card goes a long way to show you care.

21 Day Kindness Challenge - Day 16

Day 16:   You get to give your fellow humans compliments for the little things they do, the talents they have, and the joy they bring you.  The best part of handing out compliments is that you can hand them out to complete strangers, like the waiter in a restaurant, the cashier at a store, or the person waiting at the bus stop.

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 14

Day 14: Take care of yourself today.  In order to give to others, you must receive as well.
Do you enjoy sitting by the fireplace curled up with a blanket? Give yourself a chance to do that today.Want to kick your feet up and read a book? Go for it.  Craving a yummy treat? Indulge.
And when you do, don’t forget to remind yourself that however many challenges and troubles you have on your mind, there is a great person inside who deserves to be treated with kindness. And that person is you.

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 12

Day 12:  Smile. Yes, that's right smile. Smile when you walk down the street, when you are talking on the phone, when you meet people. A smile connects people and spreads joy.

"When you're smilin', the whole world smiles with you." Ever heard that song, made famous by Louis Armstrong? Well, it's true. Research shows that smiling is contagious. Ever been around someone who just had something fantastic happen to him or her? Isn't it almost impossible not to feel good, too? Studies show that something as simple as seeing a friend smile can activate the muscles in your face to make that same expression, without you even being aware that you are doing it. Crazy, right?
Spread the joy today.

21 Days of Kindness: Day 11

Day 11: Ask someone how they are and truly listen.  Focus on listening deeply, without judgment and with total presence, to whatever they have to share, whether it's about their current struggles, highest aspirations or whatever else may be bubbling to the surface in the moment. Because sometimes the humble act of listening can do more to serve than even the most well-intentioned advice.

21 Days of Kindness - Day 8

Day 8: Good News
The headline stories on TV, the internet, newspapers often focus on sensational, negative stories. But hidden from the spotlight, everyday people are making tremendous contributions towards the common good all over the world. Making the world a better place. But they go unnoticed or get lost in the newsfeed. We need to hear their stories. Choose an uplifting news story, video, quote to share with friends and family.

21 Days of Kindness Challenge: Day 7

Day 7:  Today, think back to a particular act of kindness, big or small that touched you.  Contemplate what it felt like. Now, think of a way to pay-forward that act, either by doing the same thing for someone else -- or a different kind act of your choosing done with the same unconditional love.

21 Days of Kindness: Day 6

Day 6: No Complaining for a day. The day is to try and step back from negativity. It may sound simple, but it takes a lot of self- awareness to truly stop complaining. No bitching. None. No whining, zilch. No venty facebook posts or tweets, no bellyaching emails. This is about what you put into the world both word and action. See if you can change moments of discomfort, anger, or annoyance into an opportunity for a kind thought, word, or deed.

You can express your displeasure but in a constructive way. To quote Elizabeth's original rules "I can mention something that has not happened the way I would have liked, but I have to come up with possible ways to improve the situation instead of just moaning about it."

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 5

You know the old saying "it's the thought that counts". Today this is what it is all about.  Take a few seconds out of your day to leave a little note for someone in your life. It might just make their day.
Here are a few suggestions:
- On the fridge: "Thanks for the keeping the fridge full with yummy food"
- At the office: "Good job on the report last week. Your hard work really paid off."
- At school: "Thanks you for teaching me new things everyday."

21 Day Kindness Challenge Day 4

Day 4: Donate books or clothing. Do you have a shelf or closet of things that have accumulated? Things that you no longer use but could make a difference in someone else's life. Make one pass and collect what you can today. Over the weekend make a second pass and then a third maybe even start a clothing drive amongst your friends or family.

21 Day Kindness Challenge Day 3

Day 3: Reconnect with an old friend today either via email, phone, or Facebook.  If you want to step-it-up let them know how much they mean to you or the impact they had on your life.  Be the reason they smile.

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 2

Day 2: Hold the door open for someone, let someone go ahead of you in line. The idea is to simply broaden your circle of caring in a small but heartfelt way. To step-it-up, actively send silent good wishes towards everyone who crosses your path and notice how this simple practice changes the quality of your day.

21 Day Kindness Challenge: Day 1

Day 1: Tune into the gifts of people around you and give 3 genuine, heartfelt compliments.
